California Vineyard Mapping
About the Vineyard Mapping Project
The California Vineyard Mapping Project is a statewide effort led by CAWG to create the most current, accurate picture of commercial vineyard acreage in California.
Why It Matters
- Reliable acreage & trends: Clear visibility into planted, removed, and fallow acreage for business planning and market analysis.
- Policy & advocacy: Credible, up-to-date data for conversations with legislators, agencies, and local governments.
- Risk & resilience: Better situational awareness for wildfire smoke, frost, drought, and disease response.
What the project provides
- Statewide PDF Report — County-by-county vineyard acreage totals, key findings, and methodology notes.
- Interactive Web Map — Parcel-level vineyard footprints with layers by county, AVA, and Grape Pricing (Crush) District.
- Change-Detection Updates — After the base year, periodic releases highlighting new plantings and removals across mapping cycles.
