Grower Committees Advancing Your Interests
CAWG Committees
The CAWG board of directors has working committees, which spend significant time on issues and challenges confronting the industry. The committees meet to consider issues, develop information and analyses, and recommend policies and priorities to the full board of directors.
Federal & International Issues
The committee provides a forum for analyzing, discussing and debating various federal public policy issues, including labor and immigration, water, environment, wine labeling and international trade issues. The committee recommends to the board of directors positions and priorities on federal policy matters.
State Government Affairs
The committee provides a forum for analyzing, discussing and debating various state public policy issues that affect vineyards and the health of the California winegrape industry. Legislative and regulatory issues that may come before the committee include labor, water, environment, tax, and market enforcement. The committee recommends to the board of directors positions and priorities on state policy matters.
Industry Affairs & Sustainability
The committee oversees the activities of the association in the area of industry affairs, specifically in the areas of sustainability (California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance), research/extension, winegrape statistics, environmental and pest management issues, and the Unified Wine & Grape Symposium (along with the CAWG Member Services & Communications Committee). The committee analyzes, discusses and debates industry issues and problems, and identifies priorities and options for consideration by the board of directors.
Member Services & Communications
The committee oversees the association’s activities in the areas of membership recruitment and retention, association governance, the development and delivery of member programs, services and educational activities. The committee is responsible for assessing and recommending priorities or improvements in the content and effectiveness of communications to CAWG members. The committee recommends to the board of directors proposals to enhance the value of membership and improvements in the operation of the association.
CAWG PAC
CAWG PAC is the political arm of CAWG. The PAC raises funds from growers and others in the ag industry. Additionally, CAWG PAC interviews candidates for office to learn more about them and to inform them about our industry and the challenges we face. The PAC contributes to campaigns for elected officials and candidates who are concerned with how legislation affects winegrape growers and who support our industry.
